EnvisionRx and the District’s Joint Health Management Board are always working together to find ways to provide better prescription coverage while managing the rising costs of medications.
Did You Know?
Per the Plan booklet, the Dispense As Written (DAW) penalty is applied when you purchase a brand name prescription drug when there is a generic option available. When this occurs, you pay the brand copay PLUS the difference in cost between the brand name and the generic.
The copay for generic drugs is between $0 – $20 depending on the drug tier and length of supply. However, the copay for brand name drugs is between $35 – $100 depending on these same factors. This means that your total cost for a brand name drug (when a generic option is available) will be at least $70 – $180 extra per order.
The purpose of this penalty is to help you choose a medication that’s proven safe and effective for your condition at the lowest possible cost. By using the most cost-effective medications you will not only save money with lower copayments, but your prescription plan saves as well. This helps ensure that the plan can continue to provide excellent coverage for you and your family.
Ways to Save
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about trying generic drugs, or ask for an alternative drug if the class of drug does not have a generic available. Generics contain the same active ingredients as the brand-name option and may reduce your pharmacy expenses.
In addition, if you have any questions about your prescription drugs and/or authorizations, please contact EnvisionRx Customer Service Help Desk at 800-361-4542. The Help Desk is here to assist you 24 hours a day – 7 days a week.
